Liberation Day; Jean Claude, Mamie, Jim Firth, Taffy, Jean Paul, Odette, Raymond, Richard Garrity, Jeanne, M. Closon. It was a day of mixed emotions. We were elated, but Jeanne was saddened by the realization that we would now leave. There were some real tough goodbyes.
The American, Bob Cleveland, who had traveled with us since Grote Bedelaar, was also celebrating his liberation, along with Angel, Jeanne and Julienne.
Instead of German soldiers, there were now Americans billited and they were still getting used to their new freedom after four torturous years of Nazi occupation.
The joy of being liberated is plainly evident in Jeanne's face.
A portrait of Adolph Hitler was found in a building abandoned by the Germans and the freed Belgiums expressed their sentiments quite clearly.
I promised to return, and I did in 1969, and again in 1971 when this picture was taken. Myself, Jeanne, Reeny and Raymond. My son Stephen accompanied us and took this photograph.
Odette, now a grown woman, myself, Odette's husband Raymond, and Reeny.
