Victor Willemart
In 1944, this charming cottage had been the bustling headquarters of the Maquis of Maredsous, under the command of Victor Willemart. The cottage had been enlarged to double its original size during the war. I could still identify the upstairs window of the bedroom I had slept with Victor. (NOTE: The actual window was never identified in the journals)
A year after the war, I was fishing at our cottage at Pike River, Quebec, proudly wearing the beret I traded from my Belgium guide.
